Handy Tips and Suggestions

Treated Pine may distort in hot or windy weather, therefore we suggest you protect your sign from these conditions until it is fixed in place.

Secure Your Sign with galvanized bolts, screws or twist type nails at the top and bottom of each board to prevent distortion.

Hanging On Hooks Or Chains etc. consider the possibility of noise in windy conditions; children swinging them or on them; the possibility of someone being hit on the head.

Painted/Unpainted Boards  Painted letters on painted boards are often used in commercial situations.  Plain boards (natural timber) with painted letters usually appeal in private situations where less exposure is required.  Painted letters on painted boards require the board being painted, letters cut and each letter is then painted in.  With unpainted boards, the letters are cut and painted, then placed through a thicknessor to give a clean sharp finish.  It is a much quicker process.

Color Of Lettering  Dark colors will not stand out when the sign is in a shaded area or the board is wet.  Yellow is hard to see in bright light.  White is most popular.  However if there is a certain color required, let us know and we will paint accordingly.

Timber Size  Where a sign is attached to a paling fence, for example, a heavy board is not necessary.  Where a sign is to be erected in a farm type situation, commercial premises, parks and gardens or where a solid bold appearance is preferred, a heavy board e.g. 50mm thick is recommended – as in these situations animals or children etc. are likely to give the sign some rough treatment.
